Get to Know Me

My name is Ellie Holmes and I write commercial women’s fiction and romantic suspense. If you like your tales with heart and soul and a dash of danger then you’ve come to the right place.

I take my inspiration from the beautiful Essex countryside and the sublime Cornish coast. Away from writing I love nothing better than losing myself in a good book, film or TV series, spending time in my garden or with family and friends.

My Writing

Writing stories is something I have done for as long as I can remember. Originally, I wanted to be a children’s writer because they were the only books I knew (I was eight at the time!). By my teens my best friend and I were writing sci fi soap operas set in space.

Eventually, I settled on what I write today, commercial women’s fiction concentrating on relationships with a touch of romantic suspense. For years I struggled to find my voice. I wasn’t even sure what people meant when they talked about the need to find it and then one day it all seemed to fall into place. The writing didn’t become easier – writing is never easy – but it became more natural. I was no longer a square peg in a round hole. I had found my voice. Now I write both full length novels and novellas in the commercial women’s fiction and romantic suspense genre.

My Philosophy

I know what it’s like to care for someone at the end of their life. I know too what it feels like to be critically ill and have someone care for you.

I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma some years ago. The day after I received the news my Dad died (he didn’t know about my diagnosis. We had kept it from him). Life as I had known it imploded. Cancer batters you emotionally, physically and mentally. On the good days it’s one of those things, on the bad days it’s all three.

Cancer also forces you to re-evaluate. I carried out a life audit and as a result I am a different person today than I was then.

My philosophy is simple. Life gets shorter every day so:-

What I’m Up To This Month

As the leaves turn beautiful shades of copper, ochre and burnt umber it is time to acknowledge that autumn is here.

Dark evenings and chill winds mean cosy nights in.  On TV, I am enjoying the always good value Bake Off and SAS Rogue Heroes.

Currently reading – The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory
